Pattern: Heat in Liver and Stomach.

Key symptoms: Acute, burning pain in the epigastrium, irritability, acid regurgitation, dry bitter taste in the mouth. Red tongue yellow coating. Wiry rapid pulse.

Formula: Hua gan jian (Transform the Liver Decoction) / Zuo jin wan [Left Metal Pill].

Treatment method: Soothe the Liver, clear heat, harmonize the Stomach, relieve pain.

Acupuncture: Ren12 zhong wan, ST36 zu san li, Pericardium-6 nei guan, LV2 xing jian, ST34 liang qiu, ST44 nei ting.

Formula Ingredients:

Hua gan jian: Mu dan pi (Cortex Moutan) , Shan zhi zi (Fructus Gardeniae), Bai shao yao (Paeoniae radix lactiflora), Qing pi (Pericarpium Citri reticulatae viride), Chen pi (Pericarpium Citri reticulatae), Ze xie (Rhizoma Alismatis), Chuan bei mu (Bulbus fritillariae cirrhosae)

Zuo jin wan: Huang lian (Rhizoma Coptidis), wu zhu yu.

Modifications: To resolve depression and relieve pain without Yin depleting, add fo shou, mei gui hua, yu jin.
