Hiccough

Pattern: Depletion of Stomach Yin

Key symptoms: Fast and abrupt hiccough, irritability, dry mough, dry red tongue with cracks, rapid thready pulse. 

Formula: Yi wei tang [Benefit the Stomach Decoction].

Treatment method: Nourish Stomach Yin, generate liquid, relieve hiccough.

Acupuncture: Ren12 zhong wan, Pericardium-6 nei guan, ST36 zu san li, UB17 ge shu, Kidney-3 tai xi, SP6 san Yin jiao.

Formula Ingredients: Yi wei tang: Bei sha shen (Radix Glehniae), Sheng di huang (Radix Rehmanniae), Mai men dong (Radix Ophiopogonis), Yu zhu (Rhizoma Polygonati odorati), bing tang.

Modifications: To reinforce to relieve :hiccough, add pi pa ye, shi hu, shi diTo boost Qi and harmonize the middle jiao, add ju pi zhu ru tang
