Cough

Pattern: Invasion of Lung by wind dryness.

Key symptoms: Dry cough without phlegm, or phlegm containing streaks of blood, dry throat, nose and mouth. Cold and fever. 

Formula: Sang Xing Tang (Mulberry Leaf and Apricot Kernel Decoction),Xing Su San (Apricot Kernel and Perilla Leaf Decoction)

Treatment method: Course wind-dryness, moisten the Lung, relieve coughing.

Acupuncture: UB13 fei shu, Lung-5 chi ze, Large Intestine-11 qu chi, Lung-10 yu ji.

Formula Ingredients: Sang xing tang: Sang ye (Folium Mori), Bei sha shen (Radix Glehniae), Zhe bei mu (Bulbus Fritillariae thunbergii), Dan dou chi (Semen Sojae preparatum), Shan zhi zi (Fructus Gardeniae), li pi.

Modifications: For severe vacuity of fluids, add Mai men dong (Radix Ophiopogonis), Yu zhu (Rhizoma Polygonati odorati)

For high fever, add Shi gao (Gypsum fibrosum), Zhi mu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae)

For phlegm is streaked with blood, add bai mao genCold dryness, use xing su san.
